Every baby born prematurely has the opportunity to take advantage of special conditions for premature babies follow-up, which include free consultations and discounts on basic medical services.

Pediatrician Consultation:

  • The first visit to the pediatrician is free.
  • Each subsequent visit to the pediatrician is at a discount - GEL 40 (instead of GEL 65).

Consultation of a pediatric neurologist:

  • The first visit to the pediatric neurologist is free.
  • Each subsequent visit to the pediatric neurologist is at a discount - GEL 40 (instead of GEL 65).

Ophthalmologist’s consultation:

  • At a discount - GEL 40 (instead of GEL 65).

Who can benefit from the special conditions of premature infants follow-up program?
Special conditions of premature infants’ follow-up program are available for all children under 6 years of age, who were born prematurely. Conditions also apply to patients enrolled in the state program.

What should we know if a baby is born premature?

Follow-up of a premature baby is especially important and deserves attention! Prematurity is associated with various medical problems, risks of developmental and behavioral disorders.
Premature infants between the ages of 0 and 2 years need special care and relatively frequent medical check-ups for timely detection of:

  • Developmental retardation
  • Visual problems, retinopathy
  • Hearing problems
  • Nutritional disorders
  • Sleep disorders, sleep apnea
  • Speech problems
  • Autism spectrum disorders
  • Behavioral disorders: impulsivity, hyperactivity

Early diagnosis allows for timely and appropriate medical intervention. This requires comprehensive work by different specialists and outpatient monitoring.
A full range of outpatient supervision services for premature babies is available at the Children’s Health Center - routine checkup by a pediatrician, pediatric neurologist, ophthalmologist and orthopedist.

Neurological follow-up of premature infants
Every premature newborn baby, born before 37 weeks of age, must necessarily undergo an additional and special neurological examination!
During the neurological examination of a premature baby, a neurologist’s consultation and a neurological examination are provided, and the child’s motor skills and mental development are assessed (according to the Hammersmith and ASQ scales).

If necessary, additional examinations are performed, the full range of which is available at the Children’s Health Center:

  • Routine checkup by a neurologist
  • Polysomnography - sleep monitoring
  • Neurosonoscopy
  • Video Electroencephalography (on-site service)
  • High resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) 24/7
  • Computed tomography 24/7
  • Developmental assessment according to various scales
