Inpatient Unit of Child Health Center

The New Hospitals Child Health Centre inpatient unit offers access to the European standard of care for pediatric patients (29 days to 18 years). Patients can be admitted to the inpatient unit and discharged any day of the week.

Medical Care

Patients may be admitted to the inpatient unit to diagnose and treat various therapeutic and surgical conditions. The course of treatment may also involve a neurologist, gastroenterologist, infectious disease specialist, allergist, nephrologist, general surgeon, trauma surgeon, neurosurgeon, otorhinolaryngologist, ophthalmologist, maxillofacial surgeon, endoscopist and gynecologist, various medical procedures and close contact with a personal physician. The center also offers outpatient and inpatient diagnostics and treatment of pediatric neurological diseases. Video electroencephalography: routine, long-term, daily video EEG monitoring (available 24/7). The center also caters for patients with surgical pathology. On admission, patients are familiarized with the ward's internal routines and the timetable for doctor visiting, carrying out clinical and laboratory examinations, and planning discharge.

The department pays a maximum and particular attention to creating a safe and comfortable environment for the patient; such as the presence of parents during manipulations, pain-free procedures (venous catheterization, lumbar puncture, postoperative management), using sedation and pain management protocols developed by leading world clinics.

Inpatient Unit and Ward Equipment

The majority of the wards in the multidisciplinary inpatient unit of the Child Health Centre are single, which enables the isolation of patients with different nosologies/diseases. The department has several double, triple and intensive care rooms for medical needs.

The wards are equipped with cutting-edge medical equipment:

  • Individual monitors
  • Infusion devices
  • Pumps
  • Electric aspirators
  • The central source of oxygen

Each ward has its bathroom and shower, a central ventilation system and an additional folding chair for parents to rest in. In addition, the rooms and bathrooms are equipped with a push-button medical staff call system. There is an additional canteen for parents, and at the same time, there is the possibility of organizing meals for patients. The wards have the option of negative pressure, which is essential to prevent the spread of infection among patients. This system is a novelty and an exclusive advantage of the Children's Health Centre.

Visiting Hours

Only one caregiver may be in the room with the patient. Other persons may visit the patient at certain times, namely between 19:00 and 21:00. During visiting hours, it is recommended that no more than two people be in the room at the same time. Children are not allowed in the room with the patient!

Medical Team

The inpatient department is headed by a pediatrician Nino Chitanava, who together with the attending physicians carries out daily rounds of patients. The department is staffed by professional pediatricians with continuous medical experience who oversee and treat hospitalized patients. Junior doctors and nurses, who are in close contact with patients and work under the supervision of doctors, are also integral part of the medical team.

Highly qualified professors and the head of the center are involved when necessary in discussing special medical cases, planning clinical and laboratory investigations and deciding treatment tactics. Foreign and Georgian colleagues from Germany, France and the USA can also participate in discussions and consultations together with the medical staff of the center. As part of the cooperation and friendship with the Centre for Child Health, online consultations between colleagues can be held, and the best decisions can be made for a given situation. Even after discharge from the hospital, the team at the Children's Health Centre is available at any time for a telephone or outpatient communication with the patient.
